Event overview
The Death Race is the 26th annual running event held in Grande Cache, Alberta. It takes place over two days in early August 2026 at 10450 Hoppe Ave. The event is organized as a mountain ultramarathon with multiple race categories and includes pre-race check-in and racer meetings on the day before the main competition. Awards are presented on the final day.
Course and categories
The primary course is an ultramarathon of 118 km that begins and ends on a 4,200-foot plateau. The route crosses three mountain summits, includes more than 17,000 feet of total elevation change, and features a major river crossing at Hell's Gate canyon at the confluence of the Smoky and Sulphur Rivers. The event is staged in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
