About the race
The Dash on the Dam is an annual fundraising event located at the Lake-Marion Santee Dam in Manning, South Carolina. Organized by the Optimist Club of Clarendon, the race serves to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer. Proceeds from the registration fees support several organizations, including Camp Happy Days, Children's Cancer Partners, and Curing Kids Cancer.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5K run
- 1 Mile Fun Run
The 5K course follows a straight out-and-back route on the dam, consisting of a 2.5 km stretch to a marked turnaround point and a 2.5 km return. The 1 Mile Fun Run is an untimed event. For the 5K, overall awards are determined by gun time for the top three male and female finishers, with separate awards for participants under 12 years of age.
The event features various activities for families, including a face-painting station and a post-card station. Attendees are encouraged to wear gold-themed outfits, costumes, or decorated shirts to signify support for childhood cancer awareness. Strollers are permitted for the Fun Run, and the event allows participants to listen to music while running. Pets are also welcome at the venue.
Informational materials regarding childhood cancer awareness are available on-site, alongside partner booths and vendors. There are no age restrictions for any of the race distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
