10 English Miles - NN Dam tot Damloop
The main distance of the NN Dam tot Damloop is the 10 English Miles, a 16.1 km course between Amsterdam and Zaandam. The race starts on the Prins Hendrikkade in Amsterdam and finishes along the Zaan at the Burcht.
The route runs through the IJtunnel and continues via the Buiksloterdijk past residential support along Landsmeerderdijk, Kadoelenweg, Stoombootweg and Appelweg. After Molenwijkpark the course follows a cycle path to the Coentunnelcircuit, then along a bus lane by the A8 to the Noorder IJ- en Zeedijk in Zaandam, and finishes via the Zuiddijk to the Burcht.
The entertainment programme divides the course into five decade zones: Back to the 80's with music in the IJtunnel, 90's Party Playground, 00's Millennium Madness, 10's Festival Fever and 20's Future Beats. Each zone presents era-specific music and atmosphere.
Logistics include a special clothing bag issued with the race number. Bags are handed in at Stationsplein in Amsterdam and reclaimed in Zaandam on presentation of the sticker placed on the start number. Only the provided bags are accepted; sport or rucksacks are not taken. Business runners have a separate changing tent in the NN Dam tot Dam Park. Returned bags are sorted by sticker number with lower numbers near the finish.
Along the course there are aid stations at Start, 4.5 km, 9 km, 12 km, 14.5 km and Finish offering AA Drink Iso Lemon, water, fruit and sponges; toilets and a medical post are provided. Aid stations are positioned on the right side of the course.
The event applies a 2 hour time limit. Runners overtaken by the sweeper vehicle are asked to stop and are transported to the NN Dam tot Dam Park; they will not be included in the official results or receive a medal.
Prize money is allocated across multiple categories including senior men, prominent women, masters (M35 to M75) and senior women and masters (V35 to V70). Extra prizes are awarded to the first three men and women residing in the Netherlands. A prize category may be void if fewer than three starters compete in that category.
