Cradle Mountain Run
The Cradle Mountain Run is a long-distance trail event held in Tasmania through alpine and wilderness areas. The event course is 78 km and passes through protected parkland and sections of the Overland Track.
For 2027 the run will be held on 6 February 2027. Entries open at 8pm on Sunday 11 October 2026 (Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time / GMT +11). Organisers provide an information booklet, electronic map options, timing information, and an interactive course map for participants.
A mandatory live briefing will be held in 2027 with updated participant information. Previous briefing material and a Parks and Wildlife Service ranger briefing are available for review to familiarise participants with earlier guidance.
Training and access on the Overland Track are subject to permit and seasonal rules. From 1 October to 31 May there are limitations on access outside the event: day passes allow running only to Waterfall Valley from the North, to Pelion Gap and Mt Ossa from the Arm River Track, and to Du Cane Gap from the South. Longer training distances during that period require an Overland Track Permit. From 1 June to 30 September runners holding a National Parks pass usually may run in either direction any distance.
