The Course Eiffage du Viaduc de Millau en Aveyron
The Course Eiffage du Viaduc de Millau en Aveyron offers a unique running experience on the highest motorway bridge in the world. This event takes place every two years in the Aveyron department, specifically in and around the town of Millau. The route features a single distance:
- 23.7 km
The race starts in the center of Millau at the Boulevard de l’Ayrolle, near the lavoir. The first 5 km are relatively flat, following the Tarn river along the route de Peyre. This is followed by a significant ascent on a winding track under the pillars of the viaduct, rising from 380 meters to approximately 575 meters in altitude.
The highlight of the event is the crossing of the Millau Viaduct. Participants run 2,460 meters in one direction toward the Larzac plateau and then return 2,460 meters in the opposite direction on the bridge deck, which sits up to 270 meters above the river. The highest point of the race reaches nearly 700 meters in altitude at the 12.5 km mark.
After exiting the viaduct, the course descends toward the foothills of the Causse Rouge and finishes at the Parc de la Victoire in Millau. The total elevation gain is approximately 390 meters. There are three aid stations along the route providing water and food, with an additional refreshment point at the finish line.
