Closter's Dom Mircovich Memorial 5K
The Dom Mircovich Memorial Closter 5K Run/Walk is an annual community event held in Closter, New Jersey. Now in its 45th year, the competition is recognized as the longest running continuous 5k in the Northern Valley. The event takes place at Memorial Park on Harrington Avenue and utilizes a USATF certified course (NJ24017JLW).
The course is described as mostly flat, leading participants through local neighborhoods, parks, and the town center. The event features professional electronic B-tag timing and scoring. Water stops are positioned at multiple locations along the route to support participants.
Available distances include:
- 5 km run or walk
- 1 km kids fun run
The kids fun run is open to participants aged 12 and under. All participants in the fun run receive ribbons, with specific trophies awarded to the top five boys and top five girls. For the 5k, awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as the top three parent-child teams. Age group awards are also provided in five-year increments, ranging from 10 and under to over 80. Special recognition is given to the fastest male and female residents of Closter.
Participants are provided with post-event refreshments. Moisture-wicking T-shirts are available for the first 225 registrants of the 5k, while the first 50 registrants of the fun run receive a T-shirt and Tyvek bib. The event proceeds in rain or shine, provided there are no lightning warnings. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
