Steens Rim Run and Walk
The annual Steens Rim Run and Walk, also called the Rim Run, takes place on Steens Mountain in Southeast Oregon on the first Saturday in August. The event draws over 200 participants to a remote mountain setting in the Pacific Northwest.
The main distance is a 10K that follows the Steens Mountain Loop Road. The course begins at about 7,830 feet and finishes above 9,730 feet, featuring a near-steady climb from start to finish. The route passes the headwaters of Fish Creek and the Little Blitzen and runs along the mountain rim where a number of high mountain viewpoints are visible. To the east the Alvord Desert lies roughly 5,000 feet below the east rim.
The race is presented as a run and walk on a high elevation road course. Photographs and a mapped course profile are noted as part of the event material. The remote location and sustained ascent are defining characteristics of the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
