Chief Joseph Rust Buster
The Chief Joseph Rust Buster is a classic cross-country ski event held on December 19, 2026, on the Chief Joseph Trails near Chief Joseph Pass in Sula, Montana. The main scheduled race is a 10KM classic on trails located on USDA Forest Service lands near Lost Trail Pass and the Lost Trail Ski Area, on the north side of Highway 43.
The event is limited to 70 participants. Registration opens on November 16, 2026, and closes on December 14, 2026; the listed registration fee is $18.00 with a $5 price increase after December 14. Organizers note that timing will use older, manual-style timing technology.
Trails will remain open to other recreational users during the event; participants and other users are expected to share the trail. Parking at the site is limited and there is no parking allowed on Highway 43. The 3KM race is not offered in 2026; free youth clinics are offered in February for young people interested in the sport.
