About the race

Champions of Hope is an annual community event held in downtown Dothan at The Plant that raises funds for local cancer services and patient support. The event began in 2008 from the vision of a local nurse living with breast cancer and first drew more than 500 participants on the campus of Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Since then the event has raised more than one million dollars to support cancer awareness, early detection, and treatment-related services.

Over time the scope expanded from breast cancer to support survivors and previvors affected by all cancers in the region. Event features include commemorative t-shirts and finisher medals, roving entertainment, family-friendly activities, a butterfly release, local vendors, food trucks, speakers, an awards ceremony, and a pet-friendly Paws Fur Hope Hydration Station with a canine costume contest.
