About the race
The CHAMP 5K Run/Walk is an annual childhood cancer awareness event held in September. The 2026 event takes place on September 19 at Kiwanis Park, North Soccer Field, in Tempe, Arizona. More than 2,000 attendees and over 28 nonprofit organizations typically participate in the day.
The program includes a 5K run/walk followed by a pancake breakfast included with registration. A CHAMPION Walk provides a short loop around the vendor area for children on treatment, children in remission, and families walking in honor of a child. CHAMPION family members walk free when the child is registered as a CHAMPION and registered children receive a CHAMPION shirt, medal, and goody bag.
Registrants receive a custom tech shirt, finishing medal, bib, official timing, and breakfast. The event is timed by an official provider and results are displayed at the results booth and posted online after the race. Awards are given to the top overall male and female finishers and to 1st through 3rd place in standard age categories.
The event features food, exhibitors, informational booths, a raffle and silent auction, and community fundraising opportunities. Programs onsite include a Carry A Bead activity with Beads of Courage, a blood drive, and a bone marrow screening presence. All proceeds benefit local nonprofits serving children with cancer. Packet pickup is available in Tempe on the days before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
