About the race
Orienteering Taranaki will host the Pokapū Central Regional Championships across 23 and 24 January 2027 in the Taranaki region. The programme includes three event formats on distinct maps and terrains: - Middle Distance: new map near Stratford, mix of farmland and native bush. - Sprint Distance: Pukeiti Gardens, complex garden terrain with fast, technical navigation. - Long Distance: Hurworth, steepish Taranaki farmland with open areas and native bush. Championship classes are offered for junior, open, masters and elite age grades. Recreational, easy and very easy courses are available for newer and non-championship competitors.
All races will use SportIdent electronic punching, with SI Air+ contactless punching supported for compatible cards. Each event arena will provide registration, toilets, first aid, the finish area and an unofficial O-Lynx results display. Embargoes apply: competitors must not bring previous physical or digital maps into competition arenas, and New Plymouth Girls’ High School must not be entered with a map in hand. The events will be conducted under the latest Orienteering New Zealand competition rules.
Bulletin 1 will provide full course allocations, map scales, expected winning times and technical details. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
