Castlewood Adventure Race

The Castlewood Adventure Race is an eight hour, multi-sport off road event held in the St. Louis area. Teams navigate an unmarked course using a map and compass and move between checkpoints by mountain bike, canoe, or on foot.

Typical distance ranges for the race include:

  • Paddling: 5 to 10 miles
  • Biking: 15 to 20 miles
  • On foot: 5 to 10 miles

Organizers describe the course location as undisclosed until race day, with a course overview released closer to the event. Competitors should expect four to eight hours of continuous movement through woods, rivers, and roads of the St. Louis area. The event may or may not pass through Castlewood State Park.

Entry divisions include solo and multi-person teams plus a family division that requires at least two related people, one over 18 and one under 18, and allocates one canoe per family team. Some team sizes are offered in Co-Ed, Men’s, and Women’s divisions.

Registration fee examples listed for this event are Solo $150, 2-person $300, 3-person $450, and 4-person $600. Previous races have been capped at about 300 participants and reached capacity before the end of October. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
