Carmel Marathon Weekend : Carmel, Indiana
The event offers multiple road races that share a common start and finish area next to the Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts, at the corner of 3rd Avenue and City Center Drive in Carmel, Indiana. Races use the same start and finish lanes, with the marathon and half marathon in the south lanes and the 10K and 5K in the north lanes; the courses separate after a short grass median and turn in opposite directions.
Distances offered:
- 26.2 miles marathon, USATF certified and a Boston qualifying course.
- 13.1 miles half marathon, run on the same course as the marathon for the full distance.
- 6.2 miles 10K.
- 3.1 miles 5K.
The marathon course is described as flat and fast, with the first 13 miles run with half marathoners and the second half on a shaded paved park trail that is slightly downhill before returning to the Arts and Design District and the Palladium. The 10K begins with some hills in the first half and a faster second half. The 5K and 10K start together and split after roughly one mile, then follow the Monon Greenway back to the finish.
Race amenities include pacers for marathon and half distances, age group awards and cash purse for some races, aid stations with water and Gatorade approximately every 1.5 miles, free parking at the expo and start/finish, custom finisher medals, a finish-line recovery area with the Indiana Spine Group Pancake Village, and an official beer garden.
