Cardston Chase
The Cardston Chase is an annual race held the third Saturday of August, one week after Cardston's Heritage Days. The event takes place with views of Chief Mountain and offers multiple distances.
Distances offered:
- 1 km kids race
- 5 km
- 10 km
The 1 km kids race starts at the football booth, heads south onto the nature trail, turns around and returns to the track for a clockwise finish. A friendly Cougar mascot encourages the children, music is played and names are announced. Medals are awarded to the top finisher in each male and female age category. Kids categories are 5 and under, 6-9, and 10-12.
The 5 km route leaves the track and nature trail, follows Main Street on the sidewalk up a 37 meter elevation climb with views of the Rocky Mountains and Old Chief Mountain, descends 9th Ave on a new running path, crosses a bypass bridge closed to traffic for the race, makes a hairpin turn beside Lee Creek Valley Golf Course and returns along the scenic nature trail in the river valley before finishing on the track.
The 10 km shares part of the nature trail with the 5 km, follows the paved path along Lee Creek, continues west on a new paved path by the bike park, runs on 9th out to Beazer Road and follows 501/Beazer to a turnaround point. The route includes views of mountains, countryside and rolling hills.
Race package pick up is available at the Town of Cardston outdoor pool on Friday and at the start line on race day. Results will be posted on Zone4.ca. Prizes are awarded to the top male and female for each distance. Medals are awarded to the top two finishers in the listed age categories for each event.
