Canyon De Chelly Ultra : October 10, 2026
The Canyon De Chelly Ultra is a 55K trail race on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona scheduled for October 10, 2026. The course begins at the canyon entrance and proceeds up Canyon De Chelly toward Spider Rock, with visible ancient ruins, petroglyphs and pictographs along the route.
Runners follow a 17-mile ascent up the canyon to Spider Rock, then continue onto Bat Canyon Trail where the route climbs approximately 1,200 feet from the canyon floor to the Spider Rock overlook turnaround point before returning the same way. The return offers different perspectives of the canyon terrain and the features passed on the way out.
The route includes sand, single-track trail, creek crossings and other natural obstacles. The first and last 2.5 miles are through sand, which affects pace and effort in a way similar to a significant climb. The course has limited vertical gain overall but varied footing and surface types that influence race conditions.
Registration for this edition used a lottery held in early February 2026; the lottery entry period closed on February 7, 2026, and the drawing took place on February 8 on the event Facebook page.
