Canyon de Chelly Ultra
The Canyon de Chelly Ultra is a 55K trail race on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. The route begins at the entrance to the canyon and follows 17 miles up Canyon de Chelly to Spider Rock, passing ancient ruins, petroglyphs and pictographs along the way.
From Spider Rock the course continues up Bat Canyon Trail, climbing about 1,200 feet from the canyon floor to the Spider Rock overlook turnaround, then returns along the same route. The course includes sand, single track, creek crossings and other obstacles. The first and last 2.5 miles are in sand, which produces effort similar to sustained climbs despite limited overall vertical gain.
Lottery registration opened February 1 and closed February 7 local time. The order of registration had no influence on the waitlist and the lottery drawing was held live on Facebook on February 8. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
