Event Overview
The Canyon De Chelly Ultra is a long-distance running event held on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. The course takes place on October 10, 2026, and consists of a 55 km route. The race starts at the entrance to the canyon and follows a path that leads participants 17 miles into the canyon before reaching the turnaround point at the Spider Rock overlook.
Course Details
The route features a variety of surfaces and natural elements, including sand, single track trails, and creek crossings. While the overall vertical gain is not extensive, the course includes a climb of 1,200 feet from the canyon floor up the Bat canyon trail to reach the overlook. The first and last 2.5 miles of the race are conducted in sand.
Participants pass several historical and geological landmarks during the run, such as:

- Petroglyphs and pictographs

- Canyon De Chelly and Bat canyon
Registration Information
Entry into the event is managed through a lottery system. The registration period for the lottery opens on February 1st and closes on February 7th. The order in which participants register does not affect their position on the waitlist. A live drawing is held following the close of the registration window to select the entrants.
