Canyon de Chelly Ultra, October 10, 2026
The Canyon de Chelly Ultra is a 55K ultramarathon on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. The route begins at the entrance to the canyon and follows the canyon floor upstream for about 17 miles to Spider Rock, passing ancient ruins, petroglyphs and pictographs along the way.
From Spider Rock the course climbs Bat Canyon Trail, gaining about 1,200 feet from the canyon floor to the Spider Rock overlook, then returns along the same route. Runners will pass many of the same viewpoints on the return with different perspectives from the opposite direction.
The course surface includes sand, single track and creek crossings, and contains various natural obstacles. The first and last 2.5 miles of the course are on sand. Organizers conducted a lottery for entry; lottery registration opened February 1 and closed February 7, 2026, and the drawing was held February 8 on the event Facebook page.
The description focuses on terrain, distance and notable features along the route, including cultural and geological points of interest within Canyon de Chelly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
