The 17th Annual Butterfly 5K takes place in Waynesboro, TN on June 6, 2026. The event includes the following distances:
- 5K
- 1 mile fun run for children 12 years and under
The Butterfly Foundation, created in October 2007, organizes the race to provide financial assistance to families of children with life-threatening or life-altering illnesses. As of December 31, 2024, the foundation had distributed $1,365,550.00 to more than 439 children and their families in Wayne County and nearby areas. The first Butterfly event in Waynesboro was held on November 20, 2007.
Entries, awards and logistics
Entry fees are tiered: a lower fee for pre-registration by May 19 and a higher online fee after that date; race day registration is offered. T-shirts are provided to all paid entrants; pre-registered runners are guaranteed their selected shirt size. If shirts run out on race day, shirts may be picked up two weeks after the race. The first 550 finishers will receive a finisher medal.
Awards for the 5K include 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies in male and female age groups from 0-5 up to 85 and over, plus Best Overall, Masters and Grand Masters. A first-place male and female award is designated for wheelchair participants. Best overall male and female each receive $100 cash. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
