Butterfield Blitz Backyard
Butterfield Blitz Backyard is a backyard ultra held at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park in Herriman City, located near the Kennecott Mine and the Oquirrh Mountains. The park is designed to provide access to the Butterfield Trail system and includes an event parking area and a finish line/tent area with ample space.
The race uses a loop course of 4.167 mile that must be completed once each hour. Events are offered in these formats:
- 4 Hour Blitz
- 8 Hour Blitz
- 12 Hour Blitz
Blitz Backyards differ from standard backyard ultras by timing every loop. Placement is determined first by distance completed and then by cumulative time across completed laps. Live timing provides lap times and cumulative totals during the race. Rules note that runners must start each loop on the hour, may not start early, and must complete the loop within the hour to receive credit. Except for restrooms, runners may not leave the course or receive aid on the course once a lap begins. No artificial aid including trekking poles and no pacers are allowed.
Services and amenities include marked course flags, cones and signs, free parking, finish line snacks and electrolyte drink, locally made finisher medals, a leather patch beanie for those who complete 12 loops, and free race photos without a watermark.
