Butterfield Blitz Backyard
Butterfield Blitz Backyard is a timed backyard ultra held at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park in Herriman, UT. The event uses a standard Backyard loop of 4.167 miles that runners complete once each hour for either 4, 8, or 12 hours. Runners must complete each loop within the hour to receive credit; failure to start or finish a loop on the hour results in removal from the race.
The Blitz format records every lap and determines placement first by distance completed and then by cumulative lap time for runners with the same number of loops. Live results display individual lap times and cumulative totals during the event.
The course follows the Butterfield trail system: mostly smooth singletrack that climbs slowly for about the first two miles, then descends through denser foliage. Course specs per loop are +512 ft elevation gain and a surface composed of 99% trail and 1% fire road. The loop is marked with pink flags, cones, and signs.
On-course support includes a well stocked finish area with snacks and Tailwind electrolyte drink. Food at event closeouts includes Great Harvest Bread after the 4 hour event and pizza after the 8 and 12 hour events. All finishers who complete at least one loop receive a medal; completing 12 loops earns a custom leather patch beanie. Parking is free and ample.
