Event overview
Butterfield Blitz Backyard is a timed backyard ultra held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park in Herriman, Utah. The event offers three duration options: a 4-hour, 8-hour, and 12-hour Blitz Backyard. Each distance is capped at 60 runners to limit trail congestion. Registration closes May 15 at 11:59 PM MT and late registration runs from April 16 until May 15.
Course and format
The race uses a 4.167-mile loop that must be completed once every hour. Key course facts:
- 4 Hours - 16.7 miles, +2,048 ft elevation gain
- 8 Hours - 33.3 miles, +4,096 ft elevation gain
- 12 Hours - 50 miles, +6,144 ft elevation gain
The loop is 99% trail and 1% fire road, with about +512 ft elevation gain per loop. The trail climbs slowly for the first 2 miles and descends on the second half. The course is marked with pink flags, cones, and signs.
Rules, timing, and logistics
Runners must start each loop on the hour and complete the loop within that hour to receive credit. Placement is determined first by loops completed and then by cumulative time across completed laps. Live results and individual lap timing are provided during the race. Aid at the finish includes snacks and Tailwind electrolyte drink; Great Harvest Bread and pizza are provided at specified distance conclusions. Free parking is available at the park. Packet pickup is available the day before at the Salt Lake Running store in Sandy. Awards include a finisher medal for completing at least one loop and a leather patch beanie for completing 12 loops.
