Butterfield Blitz Backyard
The Butterfield Blitz Backyard is a loop ultrarunning event held at Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park in Herriman, UT. Runners complete a 4.167 mile loop once every hour on a mostly singletrack course that climbs gently for about two miles before descending through wooded sections. The loop has +512 ft elevation gain and is marked with pink flags, cones, and signs.
The event offers timed laps with live results showing each lap time and cumulative time. Placement is based first on loops completed and then on cumulative time for runners tied on distance. The Blitz variation records and uses individual lap times to add a strategic, time‑based element to the backyard format.
Aid and logistics include a well stocked finish area with snacks, Tailwind electrolyte drink, Great Harvest Bread at the 4 hour conclusion, and pizza at the 8 and 12 hour conclusions. Free photos will be taken on course and at the finish and provided via bib recognition. Packet pickup is available before race day. Parking is free with a large grassy area recommended for vehicles, crews, and spectators.
Awards and limits: all runners who complete at least one loop receive a finisher medal; completing 12 loops earns a custom leather patch beanie. Each distance is capped to 60 runners to limit trail congestion.
Rules require completing a loop within the hour, no pacers or artificial aid, and remaining in the starting area when a loop begins. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
