Event Overview

The Bunion Derby 5K is a 5K run and fun walk hosted by the Lebanon–Laclede County Route 66 Society. The event commemorates the Great American Footrace of 1928, famously known as the Bunion Derby, which ran approximately 3,400 miles from Los Angeles to New York City. The original race followed Highway 66.

Course and Landmarks

Participants will run or walk along a portion of the same route traveled by the original racers. The course passes several historic Route 66 landmarks, including the Carter and Lawson Phillips Station, the Lenz Tourist Home, Wrink’s Market, and the Munger Moss Motel. The event offers a look at a significant and well-preserved stretch of Historic Route 66 in Lebanon, Missouri. The start location is at Mills Drive on the Lebanon Fairgrounds.

Race Details

The event date is Saturday, April 11, 2026. There are two race options: a 5K Run and a non-competitive Fun Walk. The event uses chip timing.

Awards and Age Groups

A $50 cash prize is awarded to the top male and top female finisher in each of the following age groups: Under 20, 21 to 40, 41 to 60, and Over 60. All participants receive a finisher medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
