Event Overview
The Build-N-Athlete event returns for its second year at the Blakely Borough Recreational Complex in Peckville, Pennsylvania. This athletic gathering takes place along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, offering participants a route along the river. The event is organized by a nonprofit organization that provides sports equipment to children in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and proceeds from the race support this mission.
Participants can choose from several different distances and activities:
- 10 km run
- 5 km run
- Fun Walk
- Kids Fun Run
The 5 km and 10 km courses are described as fast and scenic. Runners in these categories compete for various awards, including tokens for the top overall male and female finishers. Recognition is also given to the top two male and female finishers in age groups ranging from under 19 to over 70. For the 2026 edition, a cash prize is available for any runner who surpasses the established course records for the 5 km or 10 km distances.
The Kids Fun Run is a free activity part of the Operation Touch Grass initiative, which promotes physical movement for children. This run is scheduled to take place following the awards ceremony. In addition to the races, the event grounds will feature face painting, raffles, and refreshments. Participants who register by mid-May are guaranteed a unisex sport-tek T-shirt, while those registering later will receive them based on remaining availability.
