Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra
Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra is scheduled for September 19, 2026 in West Point, Iowa. The event uses a single repeated loop of 4.167 miles through South Park and the Pollmiller Lake Campgrounds area. The course runs on paved bike path and road, crushed gravel, and some trail and grass.
The format requires runners to complete each loop within one hour and each loop begins exactly one hour after the previous. Participants must be in the starting corral and must start the next loop at the sounding of the bell. Apart from restrooms, competitors may not leave the course during a loop. No non competitors are allowed on the course and no personal aid is permitted during a loop though common aid stations are available. Pacers are not allowed. Results record distance covered and the last runner who can complete one more loop than anyone else is declared the winner; all others are recorded as DNF if they do not outlast the final finisher.
Support and facilities include a 10' x 10' area per participant for crew, unlimited water, minimal fruit and snacks, electrolyte supplements, and coffee while supplies last. Camping is allowed on the soccer field infield on a first come first serve basis and field lights will be used after nightfall. Pollmiller Lake Campground has reservable electrical campsites and the course passes near campground facilities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
