Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra
The Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra takes place in West Point, Iowa. It is an event affiliated with the Backyard Ultra series. The race format involves repeating a 4.167-mile loop through Pollmiller Lake Park.
Participants run a loop on a mixed-surface course. The loop is 80% paved path/road, 10% crushed gravel, and 10% trail/grass path. Each loop has 175 feet of elevation gain.
The event follows standard Backyard Ultra rules. A new loop starts every hour. Participants must begin each new loop at the sound of the bell to continue. The last runner to complete a loop within the hour is the winner; all other participants receive a "Did Not Finish" result.
Common aid stations with unlimited water, minimal fruit, snacks, electrolyte supplements, and coffee (while supplies last) are provided. Participants are expected to bring the majority of their own aid. Each participant is allowed a 10' x 10' area for a crew and tent setup. Camping is available on a soccer field near the starting corral on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event is described as a family-friendly environment. Crews and spectators are welcome. The course runs near the Pollmiller Lake Campground, which has electrical sites, a beach, and a concession stand. The town of West Point has limited amenities, including pizza and taverns. Larger towns with hotels are a short drive away. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
