Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra - September 19, 2026
Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at South Park / Pollmiller Lake Park in West Point, Iowa. The event uses a single repeating loop of 4.167 miles that runners complete repeatedly until only one runner completes a loop more than any other.
Each loop must be completed within one hour and each loop begins precisely one hour after the previous one. Warnings are given three, two, and one minute before the start of the next loop. Competitors must be in the starting corral and start the next loop at the sounding of the bell. Except for restrooms, runners may not leave the course until each loop is completed. Common aid stations are allowed; personal aid during a loop is not. No pacers or non-competitors are permitted on the course.
The loop is a custom route through the South Park and Pollmiller Lake campground area. Surface breakdown is roughly 80% paved path and road, 10% crushed gravel, and 10% trail or grass path. Elevation change per loop is about 175 feet. Event support includes unlimited water, limited fruit and snacks, electrolyte supplements, and coffee while supplies last. Each participant is allowed a 10 foot by 10 foot area for crew and gear.
Camping is permitted on the soccer field infield on a first come first serve basis; field lights will be used after nightfall. Pollmiller Lake Campground offers electrical campsites and the course runs through the campground area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
