Brandon Hill Half (Kilkenny)
The Brandon Hill Half is a mountain half-marathon held on Brandon Hill in County Kilkenny. The course length is 21.27 km with a total climb of 906 m. The event is rated Difficulty 9 (3,3,3) indicating difficult terrain, more than 500 m ascent and a distance over 10 km, and it forms part of the Leinster Half-Marathon League. The route is fully marked and the use of GPS devices is not permitted.
Competitors summit Brandon Hill twice, approaching the summit from opposite sides. The first summit occurs early in the course and is followed by a flowy descent. The final summit is the last climb of the race and is followed by a fast descent of about 3 km. Between summits the route follows rolling trail with notable views and includes a new forestry climb midway that reaches a steep 30 percent incline.
Mandatory kit is Level B - Standard and must be carried: waterproof jacket; hat or buff; gloves; whistle; charged mobile phone with emergency number stored; foil blanket, bivvy bag or equivalent. The required kit to be carried during the race will be finalised on the day and advised at registration. Failure to have required items may lead to denied entry or disqualification; random checks may be carried out.
The event starts at Raheendonore Carpark on the L4209 between Graignamanagh and Inistioge. Parking is limited and carpooling is encouraged. Prizegiving will take place at the finish line. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
