About the race
Blazing Hills is a combined trail run, walk and obstacle course racing event held in the Ruapehu Waimarino hills on 6 March 2027. The program runs trail and OCR formats on the same day with a shared event hub and finish area. The site offers food stalls, post-event drinks, hot showers and on-site camping.
The trail run and walk program includes multiple looped distances:
- 3 km The Spark a valley loop with a few hills
- 5 km The Burn a loop trail with a few hills
- 11 km The Blaze a loop featuring a sustained hill
- 21 km Trail Heaven a loop with multiple hills and extended views
- 11 km Team Hot Lap a new team trail event for 2027
The obstacle course racing program includes:
- 1.5 km MiniFlames a kids obstacle taster
- 3 km Firestarter a loop with 20+ obstacles
- 7 km Fireball a loop with 30+ obstacles, hilly and muddy sections
- 10 km Firestorm a loop with 40+ obstacles and hills
- 7 km Flamehunters team race teams of three tackle 20+ obstacles
