5 Leg Relay : Blackwood Marathon course
The five leg relay spans more than 60 km from Jayes Bridge in the Shire of Boyup Brook to Bridgetown. The route follows the Blackwood River and passes through bush tracks, private farmland and river crossings, with sections on gravel and bitumen.
The canoe leg launches from Jayes Road near Terry Road and includes an upstream section, a mandatory portage at Terry Road and an exit about 500 m past Jayes Bridge. River conditions vary with rainfall and water levels so river briefings are part of race day procedures.
The equestrian leg crosses gravel roads, paddocks and river adjacent tracks through private farmland. Horses undergo a pre start vet check and a mandatory cool down vet check at the changeover.
The swim starts at Winnejup Bridge, progresses downstream then back upstream to the start. Swimmers finish by scrambling up the riverbank to a marked handover zone.
The cycling leg moves from gravel onto bitumen, with undulating hills, steep climbs and fast descents before returning to gravel near Bridgetown Sports Ground. The running leg follows bush tracks, estate paths and roads with some slippery trail sections and a final climb up Whittell's Road into the oval.
