Blackwood Relay 5 Leg Relay
The Blackwood Relay 5 leg event covers more than 60 km from Jayes Bridge in the Shire of Boyup Brook to Bridgetown. It can be contested by five-person teams or by solo Ironman and Ironwoman entrants. The course follows the Blackwood River and passes through bush tracks, private farmland, river crossings, gravel roads and bitumen roads.
The five legs and their distances are:
- Canoe 7 km
- Equestrian 16 km
- Swim 1 km
- Cycle 37 km
- Run 10.5 km
The canoe leg begins near Jayes Road and includes upstream and downstream sections with a mandatory portage around Terry Road. The equestrian leg runs across private farmland and includes gravel roads, paddocks and river adjacent tracks; horses receive a pre start vet check and a mandatory cool down vet check at the changeover. The swim is a downstream then upstream 1 km loop starting at Winnejup Bridge with a marked handover zone. The cycle leg covers gravel and bitumen with undulating hills into Bridgetown and finishes near the Bridgetown Sports Ground. The final run uses bush tracks and roads, including trail sections and a final climb up Whittell's Road back into the oval.
GPX route files and a full course map are provided for each leg and can be loaded onto GPS devices before 31 October. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
