BLACK GOLD BRUTE OBSTACLE COURSE RACE 2026
The event takes place in Drayton Valley, Alberta on July 4, 2026. It is a loop style obstacle course race where additional loops increase distance and the number of obstacles encountered.
Several race formats are offered. The Competitive Heat has a minimum age of 14 years and consists of three loops of 4.33 km each; competitors must complete all obstacles and some failed obstacles carry penalties. Top three men and women earn prizes and the first man and woman receive free entry to the next year's race.
Longer levels aim for distances above a half marathon or a full marathon to be completed within six hours. The Savage level requires six loops and introduces a post-third-loop mechanic where obstacle choices are determined randomly at each station. The Barbaric level requires completion of ten loops within the time limit and includes a special reward for finishers.
Open heats allow up to three loops with no penalties for missed obstacles, and team heats consist of five-person teams with at least one team member required to complete each obstacle and team specific challenges. Entry fees vary by age group and teams receive a discount at checkout. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
