About the race
The RFDS Birdsville Races Fun Run is an annual community run presented by the Birdsville Race Club in conjunction with the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The 2026 event carries a Country & Western theme encouraging western-style dress such as Akubras, boots, denim and check shirts.
The course starts and finishes at the Birdsville Tourist Park (adjacent entrance) and covers 5.25 km over a mix of dirt, concrete and bitumen surfaces. The event is open to walkers, fun runners and serious runners. Participants are encouraged to create fundraising pages to support the RFDS; the event has a stated fundraising target of $10,000 and notes that 100 people raising $100 each would reach that goal.
Prizes include merchandise vouchers for open male and female placings (1st $150, 2nd $100, 3rd $50) and a $100 prize for Best Dressed Runner. Organisers advise appropriate clothing and footwear, bringing a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water, and carrying a mobile phone. Participants are asked to take care, go at their own pace, and seek assistance from marshals if required. Volunteer opportunities are available to support the event on the day.
