Birdsville Races Fun Run : RFDS
The Birdsville Race Club, in conjunction with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, presents the annual RFDS Birdsville Races Fun Run on Thursday 3 September 2026. The route starts and finishes at Birdsville Tourist Park (adjacent entrance) and covers a distance of 5.25 km. The surface varies along the course and includes dirt, concrete and bitumen.
The 2026 event carries a Country & Western theme. Participants are invited to wear western-style clothing such as Akubras, boots, denim, fringe or checked shirts. A prize is offered for the Best Dressed Runner.
The event is open to walkers, fun runners and serious runners. Registrations are open and online only. Participants are encouraged to create fundraising pages and seek sponsorship to support the RFDS. The stated fundraising target is $10,000; organisers note that 100 people raising $100 each would meet this total.
Winners in the open categories are offered official Birdsville Race Club merchandise vouchers: Open Male 1st $150, 2nd $100, 3rd $50; Open Female 1st $150, 2nd $100, 3rd $50. The Best Dressed Runner receives $100.
Advice for participants includes wearing appropriate clothing and footwear, bringing a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water, going at one’s own pace, asking marshals for assistance if required, and carrying a mobile phone.
