Big Tex Backyard Ultra
The Big Tex Backyard Ultra takes place at Stephen F. Austin State Park in San Felipe, Texas. The course utilizes a network of wide, well-maintained trails consisting primarily of crushed gravel with minimal elevation change. The event follows the standard backyard ultra format where participants complete a 4.17 mile "yard" every hour until only one participant remains.
The event includes several categories:
- Last Runner Standing: A classic backyard ultra format including a 100 mile buckle for those completing 24 yards.
- Last Rucker Standing: A rucking division held on a shorter course.
- Lil Tex Kids K: A running event specifically for participants aged 1 to 14.
Participants have access to a large grass area surrounding the group dining hall for personal aid setup. Space for crew and gear is limited to a 10ft x 10ft area per runner. The venue also offers reserved campsites and full hookup RV sites through the state park booking system.
The Last Runner Standing event serves as a Bronze Ticket race for the backyard ultra world championships qualifying series. All participants receive a hoodie, a customized poster with yard stamps, and access to a fully stocked aid station. Cash prizes are awarded to the winner and the second-place finisher based on the total distance completed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
