Beaverfoot Trail Run : Beavers Bend State Park, Broken Bow OK
Beaverfoot is a trail run held in Beavers Bend State Park near Broken Bow, Oklahoma. The event offers two distances:
- 11 miles
- 22 miles
The courses follow single track trails including Beaver Creek, Lookout Mountain, Deer Crossing, and Skyline. Surfaces are rocky, rooty, and dirt. Elevation gain is listed as very hilly, with more than 2,500 feet for the 11 mile course and over 5,000 feet for the 22 mile course. Historic average temperatures for the date range are about 37 to 63 degrees Fahrenheit.
Required equipment includes a cellphone and a water carrying system (32 oz recommended). A headlamp is required for the dark sections of the 11 mile and 22 mile courses; trekking poles are suggested. Aid and hydration stations are placed on course and at the start/finish area; aid stations provide hot and cold foods, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice, and ice while hydration stations supply water, electrolytes, and ice. Drop bags may be left near the start/finish area.
Logistics notes include a shuttle arrangement for 11 mile starters and no shuttle for 22 mile runners. There is a 10 hour cutoff for the events. Awards include long sleeve shirts and finisher medals plus first place awards and a last place award for the 22 mile field. Volunteers support race operations.
