Bear Trap Trail Races
Bear Trap Trail Races take place in Settlement Canyon, Tooele, Utah, and use multiple looped trail courses through forested singletrack, dirt roads, exposed bench trails, ridgelines, and rolling foothills with views of Tooele Valley and surrounding peaks.
The event uses three unique loops that return to a central Start/Finish Area that also serves as the aid station. Loop A is about 6.20 miles with roughly 1,800 ft of vert, marked purple, and is 87% single-track. Loop B is about 8.6 miles with roughly 1,700 ft of vert, marked blue, and is 78% single-track. Loop C is about 8.2 miles with roughly 1,600 ft of vert, marked red, and emphasizes double-track and dirt road surfaces.
The Marathon course comprises Loops A, B, and C and includes a 3.5 mile out and back to the 9,600 ft Tooele Peak summit from Bear Trap Pass. Total Marathon mileage is approximately 26.5 miles with about 8,000 ft of total vert. The 23k uses Loops A and B for about 14.8 miles and about 3,500 ft of vert. The 10k is Loop A only at about 6.2 miles and about 1,800 ft of vert.
Organizers state there are no on-course aid stations other than the Start/Finish Area and recommend carrying adequate hydration, food, and weather gear. The event is USATF sanctioned and awards modest prizes to the top three men and women in each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
