Bear Trap Trail Races, Settlement Canyon, Tooele County, Utah
The Bear Trap Trail Races are a trail running event held in Settlement Canyon that uses three distinct loops through forested singletrack, dirt roads, bench trails, exposed ridgelines, and rolling foothills. Courses offer views of Tooele Valley and surrounding peaks rising to 9,000 to 10,000 ft plus.
Loop A is about 6.20 miles with roughly 1,800 ft of vertical gain, mostly single-track, marked with purple course markings. Loop B is about 8.6 miles with roughly 1,700 ft of gain, marked blue. Loop C is about 8.2 miles with roughly 1,600 ft of gain, marked red.
Distances:
- Marathon: ~26.5 miles, ~8,000 ft, Loops A B C, includes summit to 9,600 ft
- 23k: ~14.8 miles, ~3,500 ft, Loops A and B
- 10k: ~6.2 miles, ~1,800 ft, Loop A only
There are no on-course aid stations except the Start/Finish area; the organizer recommends carrying adequate hydration, food, and gear for inclement weather. Hard cutoffs are listed by duration for each distance. The event is USATF sanctioned. Awards are given to the top three men and top three women in each distance.
