Bear River Backyard Ultra
The Bear River Backyard Ultra is scheduled for November 13, 2026 in Delmar, IA at 2173 HWY 136. The main event follows the backyard ultra format: runners complete a 4.16 mile loop each hour until only one participant remains.
Each registered participant receives a 10 by 10 foot camp space for a personal aid area and may bring one to three crew members. All registered runners receive a custom Bear River Backyard Ultra hockey sweater at packet pickup. Registration is listed as $200 and the field will be capped at 250 participants. Top male and female finishers receive cash prizes based on total registration numbers.
A basic aid station at the start and finish will offer water, GU Roctane Carbohydrate drink mix, chips, and bananas. Participants are expected to plan for additional food and gear beyond what the aid station provides.
A four mile community run is included; that run requires a headlamp and will be followed by food and beverages. Packet pickup is located at 2173 HWY 136 in Delmar with an option for late pickup before the event. Weather in mid November can vary widely, with possible conditions ranging from around 65 degrees and sunny to colder, sleeting or windy conditions near 40 degrees.
