About the Event
The BC Backyard Ultra is a last-runner-standing race format. It is held at Sicamous Public Beach Park in Sicamous, British Columbia. The course offers a mix of non-technical trail and pavement, with minimal elevation change. The event supports the Canadian Championship Series and the Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra World Championship.
Race Format
Participants must complete a loop of 6706 meters (approximately 4.167 miles or 6.7 km) every hour on the hour. Starting signals are given with whistles at three, two, and one minute before the hour. A bell rings at the start of the hour to begin the next loop. Only one runner is declared the winner; all other participants receive a DNF (did not finish). When only one runner remains, they complete a final "victory loop."
Eligibility and Registration
Registration costs $175 CAD, plus GST and processing fees. Participants must be 19 years of age or older on race day. Registration is transferable until 8:00 AM on April 10, 2026, for a $20 administration fee. No transfers are permitted after that time. The event does not offer refunds and does not maintain a waitlist. Registration closes on April 10, 2026, at 8:00 AM or when the race fills, whichever comes first.
Awards and Series
For 2026, the winner of the BC Backyard Ultra will receive a silver coin and an invitation to participate in the 2026 Canadian Championship. The winner of that championship earns an opportunity to compete in the 2027 Big Dog's Backyard Ultra World Championship.
