BC Backyard Ultra - Sicamous, British Columbia
The BC Backyard Ultra takes place at Sicamous Public Beach Park in Sicamous, British Columbia. The trails used for the route lie within the Traditional Territory of the Southern Secwepemc First Nation; the event notes the preservation and natural features of these lands.
The race follows the Backyard format: runners return to a home base repeatedly and run identical loops as long as they can. Every hour runners must complete a loop of 6706 meters (4.167 miles / 6.7056 kms). Three whistles sound three minutes before the hour, two whistles two minutes before, and one whistle one minute before. When the bell rings at the start of the hour, a runner must be in the starting chute; failing to start results in disqualification.
When one runner remains, they complete a final victory loop. There is one official winner; all other participants are recorded as DNF (did not finish).
The BC Backyard Ultra supports the Canadian Championship Series and Big Dog's Backyard Ultra World Championship. Prize arrangements vary by year: some years the winner receives a silver coin and an invitation to the Canadian Championship, other years include cash prizes with amounts tied to lap counts. The event donates to community and volunteer organizations. Lewiston Ultra Events will host the Canadian Nationals in October 2026 in Sicamous.
