Event overview
BC Backyard Ultra is a backyard-format ultramarathon held in Sicamous, British Columbia, at the Sicamous Public Beach Park. The event is part of the Canadian Championship Series and is linked to Big Dog's Backyard Ultra World Championship. The route lies within the Traditional Territory of the Southern Secwepemc First Nation.
Race format and field
The event limits the field to 125 racers with no waitlist. Participants must be at least 19 years old on race day. Every hour, on the hour, runners must complete a loop of 6.706 km (6706 meters / 4.167 miles). When only one runner remains, that runner completes one final victory loop; all other participants are recorded as DNF. Audible signals are used in the final minutes before each loop start.
Course and logistics
The course is a mix of non-technical trail and pavement with less than 20 m elevation gain or loss per loop. The venue includes a central staging area for crew, volunteers, and community support. The event has been designated a SILVER TICKET event for national championship qualification in certain years and has offered coin awards, cash prizing, and invitations to national championship events in specific years.
Registration and fees
Registration opens in October 2025 and closes in April 2026 or when the race fills. The entry fee is CAD 175 plus applicable taxes and platform fees. Registrations are transferable for an administration fee until the transfer deadline in April 2026; transfers are not permitted after that date.
