Bayou Bash Relay
The Bayou Bash Relay is a team-based running event held at T.C. Jester Park in Houston. The main competition is a 4 x 2.2 mile relay race. Participants run on a single loop course featuring a mix of paved and crushed granite trails within the park grounds. The event serves as the penultimate race of the HARRA Spring Series.
The relay offers a wide variety of competitive divisions based on age and gender:
- 2.2 Miles (Open Male, Female, and Mixed teams)
- 2.2 Miles (Masters 40+, Senior 50+, and Veteran 60+ teams)
- 2.2 Miles (Ultra-Vet 70+, Uber-Vet 80+, and Junior 18 and under)
- 2.2 Miles (Odds & Ends non-competitive division for 1-3 runners)
- 1K (Free Kids Run on the grass adjacent to the post-race area)
The "Odds & Ends" division allows teams with fewer than four members to participate, where individuals may run multiple legs to complete the distance. While these teams receive an official time, they are not eligible for race awards. For all other divisions, awards are presented to the top three finishing teams. There is also a special award for the best team name.
Following the relay races, the Houston Area Road Runners Association (HARRA) hosts a family picnic featuring food and beverages. The event is organized by the Bayou City Road Runners, an all-volunteer non-profit running club. While the race is open to all participants, specific club membership rules apply for those competing in the official HARRA interclub standings.
