About the race
The Basler Stadtlauf is an annual road running event in Basel held for several decades each third weekend in November. The 2026 edition is listed as the 43rd Basler Stadtlauf and features multiple race distances and formats for different age groups.
The programme includes:
- 5.5 km Stadtlauf with a course that finishes on the Marktplatz and is described as atmospheric with public support.
- 3.25 km distances used for the Schülerlauf and Elite Nachwuchslauf.
- 1 km runs for families and school categories.
The Laufsportverein Basel (LSVB) is the organising body, and Basler Stadtlauf GmbH handles operative organisation and race delivery. Registration is handled via the event website and the official timekeeper Datasport; entries are valid only after payment. Time measurement uses a chip in the race bib and net time is the official result. The organiser may limit participant numbers, assign start times and split fields.
A medical service and ambulances are present on course and in start/finish areas. Participants compete at their own risk; insurance and medical costs outside the event area are the responsibility of the entrants. The rules cover disqualification reasons, start number rules, start-number transfers via the official timekeeper, data use for results and photos, a SWICA race video service and sustainability requests for waste and local residents. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
