Australian Outback Marathon
The Australian Outback Marathon takes place in Central Australia with views of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) along the course. The event offers several race distances: a marathon (42 km), a half marathon (21 km), an 11 km fun run, and a 6 km fun run. The course is described as relatively flat with a couple of inclines and sand dunes. The terrain includes unsealed roads, bush tracks, and soft-sand trails with Australia's "Red Earth."
Participants must enter as part of a travel package, which cannot be purchased separately. Several package options are available, ranging from 2 to 6 nights. These packages typically include race entry, accommodation, airport transfers for scheduled flights, some meals, guided tours, and a finisher's medal. Common inclusions across packages are a carbo-load dinner and a celebration dinner. Some packages also include a sunrise viewing and base walk tour of Uluru, a visit to Kata Tjuta, or a day trip to Kings Canyon.
The event is scheduled for 25 July 2026. There is a cut-off time of 8 hours for the marathon and half marathon. The minimum age for the marathon is 18+, and for the half marathon it is 15+. The 11 km and 6 km fun runs are open to all ages. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
