Australian Outback Marathon
The Australian Outback Marathon is a set of running events held in central Australia on private land with views of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). The scheduled event date is 25 July 2026. The course is mainly on unsealed roads, bush tracks and soft-sand trails, with a few small sand dunes and stretches of the region’s characteristic red earth. Overall the route is described as relatively flat with a couple of inclines.
Available distances include:
- Marathon: 42 km
- Half marathon: 21 km
- 11 km fun run
- 6 km fun run
Race entry is available only as part of an event package. Multiple itineraries and pricing levels are offered, including Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver and Red Earth packages. Packages vary in length from 3 to 6 days and typically include accommodation, shuttle transfers and guaranteed race entry. Some packages list specific inclusions such as park passes, meals, race transfers, a finishers medal and event photography.
The event organisers report engagement with the local Yulara community, providing race entries to resort staff and free entries to students at Yulara Primary School. They also support participation by schools from the surrounding Anangu Pipalyatjara area and involve the Anangu Communities Foundation in event activities.
