Ausherman 5 Miler : 37th edition
The Ausherman 5 Miler is a five-mile road race held in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, that benefits the Chambersburg Road Runners Club and is part of the Cumberland Valley Race Series. The event traces to 1988 and is named in memory of Tom Ausherman.
The course is a 5 mile keyhole road course that loops through the scenic north end of Chambersburg with start and finish at the Marine Corps League, 450 Grant Street. The course is described as flat and is considered fast. Timber Hill Timing provides chip timing for the event; all entrants must wear a timing chip on their shoe and a bib on their chest. Finish times are recorded by chip, while awards are determined by gun time. Organizers note that timing technology can suffer delays and that backup measures are used if problems occur.
Prizes include cash awards for the top three open and masters finishers and a course record bonus of $250. Awards are also presented for the top five Marines and for overall and masters top finishers. Age-group awards are offered across standard female and male brackets, with multiple places in most groups.
