Aurora Om Die Berg in Aurora, Western Cape
Aurora Om Die Berg is an annual cycling event with an associated fun run held at the Aurora Skougronde in the Sandveld. It is organised by NG Gemeente Aurora and features multiple route formats including mountain bike, gravel and a fun run. The start and finish take place at the Aurora Skou Ground, where a small town bazaar offers food, drinks and local hospitality.
The event offers several distance options:
- 10 km Prettrap / Dapper Stapper, 5 km turnaround point
- 20 km Trapsgewys, mixes tar and gravel road
- 55 km Om die Berg MTB, farm routes and single track around Aurora mountain
- 80 km Die Lang Pad gravel route via Kapteinskloof
The 55 km Om die Berg route passes through farm tracks and around the mountain, includes single-track sections with notable wildflower displays, and returns to town. Total elevation for the 55 km route is listed as 662 m (measured with Strava). E-bikes are welcome in the MTB category, but prizes exclude E-bikes.
Age rules apply: children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult on the 55 km and 80 km routes; children under 12 must be accompanied on the 20 km; and children under 10 must be accompanied on the 10 km. Prizes are awarded to the first three finishers in the 80 km, 55 km and 20 km categories (E-bikes excluded). Registration and late entries are listed for 29 August 2026.
