Event Overview
The Au Sable Valley Triathlon is a multi-sport event with a course through the Huron National Forest. Participants complete a 1-mile kayak, an 11-mile bike, and a 3-mile run. The event begins at Mio Pond on the Au Sable River in Mio, Michigan, and finishes at Boney Park in Fairview. Participants can enter as individuals or in teams of two or three members.
Course Details
The kayak leg takes place on the river backwaters. The bike portion uses paved roads, and the run is on grass and dirt trails. The route is described as hilly. The event requires specific equipment: kayakers must have a life-saving device in each kayak, and bicyclists must wear a buckled helmet. E-bikes are not allowed. The course is marked with direction flags and signs.
Registration and Awards
The entry fee includes lunch and a t-shirt. Registration is open to participants aged 14 and over. Medals are awarded to the first-place teams in men's, women's, and mixed categories, and to the top three individuals in each of seven categories. The event is a fundraiser for Love INC of Oscoda County, a non-profit organization.
Logistics and Rules
Check-in and registration take place at the boat launch on Pond Drive in Mio. Participants must attend a pre-race briefing. Limited parking is available at the start. Transportation back to the start area is provided for individuals after the event. Restroom facilities are available at the start and finish.
