Event Overview
The Arny Johnson run and walk takes place in Loves Park, Illinois, utilizing the Zenith Park Way Trail Head as the assembly point. Participants follow a route along the Willow Creek Path and into Rock Cut State Park. The event includes two primary distances:
- 5k
- 10 mile
Course Details
The 5k course is an out-and-back route along a park path. Runners turn at the halfway mark to return to the finish line. The 10 mile course consists of a loop through the park on paved trails and roads, with the first and last miles of the route being repetitive segments. Because sections of the paths are narrow and accommodate two-way traffic, participants are required to run no more than two people wide to allow space for oncoming runners.
The 10 mile course features three water stations. These are located near the north entrance where the paved path crosses the road, and twice near the dam area as runners enter and exit the path. Course marshals are stationed at significant turns and turnaround points. Due to the width of the paths and insurance regulations, strollers and pets are not permitted on either course.
Awards and Recognition
The event features age group awards for various categories, starting from ages 8 and under up to 100 plus in five-year increments. A ceremony is held for the overall first-place male and female finishers. Other award recipients can collect their prizes at a designated table on site.
Additional Information
The event supports a charity foundation that assists firefighters who have been injured or become ill. Participants can select their preferred event merchandise at packet pickup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
