Aoraki Mount Cook Marathon
The Aoraki Mount Cook Marathon is a road running event held in the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand. Races start and finish at the Mt Cook Lodge in Aoraki Mount Cook Village and follow out-and-back courses along the main Mt Cook Road beside Lake Pukaki and alpine scenery. Distances offered include:
- Marathon (two laps of the Half Marathon course)
- Half Marathon
- 10 km
Aid and facilities: water and sports beans are available at eight checkpoints spaced at about every 5 km on the marathon course. Portaloos are provided near the start and finish in the car park behind the Mt Cook Lodge. First aiders and qualified personnel are stationed on the course and at the start/finish.
Event organisation and safety: a certified traffic management professional supports the event and officials mark the course with red arrows; participants must obey officials and course markers. Rules include no headphones and no dogs. Littering in the national park results in immediate disqualification for the runner and may affect support crews.
Logistics notes: parking in the village is limited, with additional parking available along SH80. Race packs can be collected at Mt Cook Lodge prior to and on race day. The organiser issues finishers medals for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
