Event overview
The 49th annual America’s Finest City Half Marathon & 5K takes place in San Diego on Sunday, August 16, 2026. The point-to-point half marathon begins at Cabrillo National Monument and proceeds through Historic Fort Rosecrans and Point Loma, then along San Diego Bay and Harbor Island, past the Star of India, through downtown San Diego, and finishes in Balboa Park. A 5K course runs through the heart of Balboa Park. Virtual options are available for both distances.
Race details
Entry items and event services include a technical short-sleeve shirt, a custom finisher medal, a reusable souvenir bag, a one-day pass to the Carlsbad Columbia Sportswear Company Employee Store, finish line food, complimentary beer in a beer garden, chip timing with live tracking, support stations along the route, and a pre-race expo. The half marathon has a 3.25-hour time limit and a required minimum pace of 14:53 minutes per mile. The 5K has a 1-hour time limit and a required minimum pace of 19:21 minutes per mile. Team registration is available; teams with 25 or more members may qualify for a finish-line festival booth. Team scoring applies to the half marathon only and requires at least ten people per team, including at least two of each gender; scores use the average of the top ten chip times per team.
