Aliferis Memorial Race
The Aliferis Memorial Race is a multisport community event held in Alpena, Michigan. This event commemorates the dedication of a long-term local pathologist to health and wellness. All proceeds from the event support the Peter Aliferis Scholarship Fund, the local Cancer Center, patient enhancement projects, and medical technology at the MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
Participants can choose from several different athletic disciplines and distances:
- 13.1 Miles: A running half marathon on paved streets, gravel roads, and natural trails.
- 18.5 Miles: A bike race utilizing paved streets, gravel roads, and natural trails.
- 6.5 Miles: An untimed bike tour through the paved streets and roadways of Alpena County.
- 3.1 Miles: A 5K run or walk through the streets of Alpena.
- 1 Mile: An untimed walk or run on a course near the medical center.
The event is based at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena, where registration and material distribution take place under a tent at the corner of Chisholm Street and Johnson Street. For the half marathon, a shuttle bus provides transportation from the medical center to the specific starting line of that race. All other events begin and end at the medical center campus.
