Aging in Community, New Salem 5K
The Aging in Community, New Salem 5K is scheduled for July 11, 2026 in New Salem, North Dakota, with race sign in at the historic Metropolitan Hotel and activities on Main Street. The route follows 8th Street to Highway 10, passing Salem Sue, and finishes with a street fair on Main Street. The event is the inaugural running organized to raise awareness of Aging in Community work to improve quality of life for older adults in rural North Dakota. Proceeds will benefit the local food pantry, New Salem Hunger Relief.
The event is chip timed and uses a starting lineup that begins with competitive runners and ends with casual walkers. The course is predominantly asphalt with occasional gravel or dirt, which may create an uneven running surface. Registration opens March 20, 2026 and closes June 1, 2026; the registration fee is $35.00. Runners registered before June 25 will be guaranteed a requested t shirt size; organizers will try to accommodate later registrants from remaining stock. Awards in male and female divisions will be given to the fastest times in these age categories: under 20, 20 to 39, 40 to 59, 60 to 79, and over 80.
