6633 Arctic Ultra Classic Edition 2028
The 6633 Arctic Ultra is an expedition race across the Canadian Arctic that follows sections of the historic Dempster Highway and frozen ice roads from the Yukon into the Northwest Territories. The route passes through areas named Hurricane Alley and Wrights Pass and moves across extensive snowfields and open Arctic sky. The course variable, adjusted each year according to weather, ice and terrain.
The event is self sufficient. Competitors carry their own gear, camp in the wilderness and manage their own food and rest. Checkpoints provide hot water, shelter and basic support; preparation and equipment familiarity are required. Temperatures on race day are described in the -20s C range.
The land itinerary begins with arrival in Whitehorse and includes stops in Dawson City and Eagle Plains before the race start. The published checkpoint sequence includes Sheeps Creek at 40 miles, James Creek at 71 miles, Fort McPherson at about 113 miles, a mid-point at the Peel River, Aklavik near 211 miles, Inuvik around 286 miles, Gateway at 329 miles and the finish at Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean. Expedition arrangements include accommodation and plane travel back to Whitehorse after the race, with nights in Whitehorse, Dawson City, Eagle Plains and Inuvik noted in the itinerary.
