5K Monster Dash
The event is a 5K run held on October 31, 2026, at Strataca in Hutchinson, Kansas. The course runs through a real salt mine approximately 650 feet below the surface and is lit by lanterns and candlelight in the mine tunnels.
Helmets are required for all participants and will be inspected by staff before entry. Participants must carry a light source; headlamps or flashlights are recommended. The event is organized in small starting heats with a limit of 30 participants per heat. Walkers are advised to choose earlier heats. Arrive at least 15 minutes before the selected heat to pick up the race packet; late arrivals may be moved to the final heat.
Age restrictions apply: no one under 8 may enter, and ages 8 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Clocks for self timing will be located at the start and the finish. The first 200 registrants receive a limited edition Monster Dash T shirt and a finisher medal; medals and some T shirt sizes are limited and distributed on a first come, first served basis.
Registration opens April 30, 2026 and closes July 1, 2026. The registration fee is $45. Taxes and processing fees are added to the cost. All proceeds support Strataca Kansas Underground Salt Museum. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
