5K Monster Dash
The 5K Monster Dash is a Halloween running event on October 31, 2026, held at Strataca, the Kansas Underground Salt Museum in Hutchinson, Kansas, located at 3650 E. Ave G. The course runs through salt mine tunnels approximately 650 feet below the surface, with permanent and decorative lighting along the route.
The event distance is 5K and is organized as a timed fun run with clocks at the start and finish for self timing. Participants select a starting heat at registration; heats are limited to 30 participants. Walkers are advised to choose an earlier heat. Participants still on the course by midday will be escorted to the finish.
Safety requirements include a helmet, which will be inspected by staff, and a personal light source such as a headlamp or flashlight. Age restrictions apply: no one under 8 may enter, and ages 8 to 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Race packets are distributed before each heat and late arrivals may be moved to the final heat.
Registration opened April 30, 2026 and closed July 1, 2026. The stated registration fee was $45.00; taxes and processing fees apply and all purchases are final. The first 200 registrants receive a limited edition event T shirt and finisher medal, with shirt sizes limited after the first 150 registrants.
