500 Festival Running Events

500 Festival Running Events are a series of road races held in downtown Indianapolis each spring, culminating on a May race weekend. The program in 2026 marks the 50th Running of the IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and typically draws more than 20,000 participants.

The flagship event is the IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, a half marathon with a flat, fast course. Each wave is led by a pace car. The course includes a 2.5-mile lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and finishes at the same line used by Mini-Marathon participants; a tradition at the Speedway includes the Yard of Bricks.

Other events on the same weekend include the Delta Dental 500 Festival 5K and related challenges and races for different age groups. The Delta Dental 5K uses a 3.1-mile downtown course and has hosted the USATF 5KM Championships. Race-day support typically includes thousands of volunteers and more than 50 entertainment acts placed along the course. The Delta Dental 5K also offers a post-race party.

The KidsFit Final 5K invites program participants in grades 4 through 6 to finish their final 3.1 miles in a dedicated wave. Eligible KidsFit participants receive a discounted entry, a shirt, a finisher medal, and post-race snacks; participating schools or groups must be registered in the KidsFit Program.
