Event details
The 12 Hours of Sunlight takes place on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in Glenwood Springs, CO (10901 County Rd 117). The format is a 12-hour endurance event for individuals and teams. Events listed are an individual division, a team of 2, and a team of 4. Competitors complete repeated laps of a 1.3-mile Sun King uphill route with 1,800-foot vertical gain per lap. Participants ascend (skin up) and descend (ski down) repeatedly to cover as many laps as possible within the 12-hour window.
The event is presented by La Sportiva and Smith Optics. Race amenities include a hydration and fueling station at the start/finish area, indoor and outdoor drop bag zones (one drop zone is approximately 250 feet from the lodge), and post-race food, drinks, and giveaways in the lodge. Prizes for top individuals and teams include custom event gear and lift tickets for the 2025/26 season. There will be no race-day registration. Minors must have a parent, coach, or guardian present for the entire race.
Entry and equipment
Listed registration prices are: individual $80.50 (includes $5.50 fee), team of 2 $75.20 (includes $5.20 fee), and team of 4 $54. Registration closes January 23, 2026.
Required equipment includes a headlamp, a helmet, and downhill-rated skis or a split-board. Helmets are mandatory for all downhill segments. Snowshoes and uphill-only skis are not allowed. Bib and schwag pickup is available downtown at Sunlight Ski & Bike and at the Sunlight lodge on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
